Appleseeds Begins!

Thank you for visiting! This blog is to reflect on our weeks here together at Appleseeds Home Nursery. I am excited to see how the year unfolds with the changing of the seasons. I hope this blog gives the reader a better sense of what our day looks like and why I believe play is so crucial to child development.

June Summer Camp Fun

June has given us a beautiful, although hot, start to summer camp. I have had various crafts planned for each day, but most often, the children choose instead to play freely by digging in the sand, splashing in the pool, playing house in the "tree house", or riding tricycles around and around. I describe my camp as "a 1970's summer in grandma's backyard". It's a time to unwind and enjoy some of the smaller pleasures that summer has to offer. Time to swing in a swing, or sit in a rocking chair and enjoy a popsicle, make some mudpies, pick some tomatoes, splash in a sprinkler, and dig hands into clay.

For an idea of what our day looks like, here's the idea
8:45-9:30: Playing outside in the play yard with some sensory play, a simple craft, or anything that may strike                   their fancy. Pools are filled and the garden and children get a watering from the sprinkler.
9:30-9:45: Play yard clean up and circle time with some whole-body summer songs and games.
9:45-10:00: washing hands and settling down for a snack
10:00: Snack
10:30-11:00: Play in the shaded woods area
11:00: Popsicle time
11:20: Head inside to play in the air conditioned nursery
12:15-12:30: Inside clean up and settling down to some fine motor finger plays and songs
12:30: lunch
12:45: Parents pick up a fed and exhausted child!
